Went to watch whatever fireworks we could find with my parents last night. We accidentally ran into the best display in the area across the river, where bunches of people were setting off huge legal-in-Washington fireworks all at the same time, just at random. It was insane. I wasn't expecting to take pictures, so I had the wrong lens and no tripod, but I tried anyway and got a couple of OK ones.

Lucy Wang perches on top of her parents' van and sends messages on her phone while watching fireworks by the Columbia River waterfront in Dallesport, Wash. Since laws governing retail fireworks are much less strict in Washington than in Oregon, residents of nearby The Dalles, Ore., travel across the river to Dallesport every year to set off fireworks sold by Washington's Klickitat County Fire District to raise money for kids' fire safety programs.
